Akassis launches PCIe expansion card: desktop computers also have dual-port USB-C fast charging

Date: 2021/19/05

Recently, Akassis has launched an expansion accessory that allows desktop computers to instantly have two PD fast charge output ports, which is the Akassis PCIe fast charge expansion card.

The Akassis PCIe fast charge card is close to the common PCIe expansion card equipment. The short foot of the PCIe-X1 is used as a fixed insertion point and does not take power through the motherboard.

Looking closely at the component layout of the PCIe fast charging card, it is found that the above adopts a completely independent two-way fast charging design, which consists of two step-down converters with built-in protocol of Zhirong SW3522, and they do not interfere with each other at the same time.

Zhirong SW3522's highly integrated multi-protocol step-down fast charging solution integrates a 3.5A high-efficiency synchronous step-down converter, supporting multiple fast charging protocols such as PPS, PD, QC, AFC, FCP, SFCP, and CC/CV modes, and has a complete protection function. There are two USB-C output ports on the baffle. The two ports support simultaneous PD fast charging output. The dual ports are completely independent. The power is 20W + 20W, and the global total output power is 40W.

In terms of power supply, although the Akassis PCIe fast charge card uses an X1 length socket and is also inserted into the motherboard PCIe slot, it does not print gold fingers. The fast charge card does not take power through the motherboard, but uses the SATA power supply interface. That is, the common hard drive optical drive power supply interface to avoid burden on the motherboard. The motherboard only provides fixing functions. Even if the motherboard does not have redundant interfaces, it can be fixed inside the chassis through screws and chassis openings.

INTEL defines the maximum working current of the SATA power supply interface as 4.5A. According to the maximum input power limit of 12V 4.5A 54W, the dual-channel maximum output power of the Akassis PCIe fast charge card is 44W (only 40W in most scenarios), reserved enough margin for daily use.

Use the POWER-Z KT002 USB tester to read the PDO message of the Akassis PCIe fast charge card, support the dual-port power blind plug function, and the two interface parameters are exactly the same.

Developed based on the USB PD fast charging standard, the version is 3.0, with three fixed voltage outputs of 5V3A / 9V2.22A / 12V1.67A, in addition there are two sets of PPS voltage subsets of 3.3-5.9V3A / 3.3-11V2.22A.The compatibility of mobile phones is very good.

In addition to USB PD fast charging, Akassis PCIe fast charging cards also come with Apple 2.4A, Samsung 5V2A, QC3.0, QC2.0, QC4+, DCP, AFC, FCP and other common fast charging protocols, which can be used in the market.

The Akassis PCIe fast charging card has dual independent PD fast charging circuits, supports 20W+20W full independent fast charging output, and the total output power is 40W. SATA independent power supply will not burden the motherboard. The regular height PCI baffle and half-height baffle support the use of standard chassis and small steel cannons, so that the computer can also have two fast charging outlets, which is convenient for mobile phones such as iPhone 12 on the desktop. Quickly restore the battery life experience.
