GAC E'an punctured the "mag battery" again. What changes did it make?

Safety and endurance issues have always been on the opposite side of electric vehicles. For the sake of endurance, companies have to abandon part of the safety, and for safety, they have to compromise with endurance. In May last year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology clarified the technical requirements for electric vehicle power batteries, that is, after the battery cells are thermally out of control, the battery system will not catch fire or explode within 5 minutes. This has immediately become the main research direction of battery manufacturers and car companies.

Last year, BYD released a blade battery, which is essentially a lithium iron phosphate battery. However, the structural innovation has overcome the disadvantage of low energy density to a certain extent, allowing us to see new ideas for solving battery spontaneous combustion in the industry. In March of this year, GAC E'an also released a blockbuster technology-magazine battery, and for the first time realized that the whole package of ternary lithium battery will not be fired by needle puncture, which overcomes industry problems and redefines the safety of ternary lithium battery.

Recently, GAC Ion released the acupuncture test results of a lithium iron phosphate battery using magazine battery technology. Judging from the test results, the lithium iron phosphate package equipped with the safety technology of the magazine battery system is relatively ordinary package, does not emit smoke, and the temperature is only 51.1℃. It is the best power battery in the current acupuncture heat runaway experiment, refreshing the new height of safety of lithium iron phosphate batteries.

In fact, this is the second time that GAC Ion released the results of acupuncture tests on magazine batteries this year. The battery category tested this time is not the first ternary lithium battery, but another mainstream lithium iron phosphate battery. Judging from the official video, the acupuncture experiment on lithium iron phosphate batteries was quite successful. It is understood that this test adopts the form of comparison test. The safety factor can be more intuitively expressed through the comparison of the acupuncture test of ordinary lithium iron phosphate batteries and magazine lithium iron phosphate batteries. The reason why the second needle is more stringent is that the most stringent test conditions in the national standard were selected for this test. The 8mm steel needle with the thickest diameter was used for puncture, and the battery was kept at 100% SOC power state, which simulated the most dangerous and the most risky acupuncture situation. Under the same test conditions, the whole package of lithium iron phosphate (ordinary battery) experienced a voltage drop and a temperature rise after a steel needle pierced the battery cell to trigger thermal runaway. The maximum temperature was 329.4°C, and there was smoke. 16 minutes after the whole package of lithium iron phosphate (magazine battery) was punctured, the highest temperature was only 51.1℃. After 48 hours of inactivity, the cell voltage dropped to 0V, the temperature dropped to room temperature, and there was no smoke, no fire and Explosion phenomenon, the battery pack state is stable. Open the battery system shell, its internal structure is intact.

In the past, we often discussed about who is the future of ternary lithium battery and lithium iron phosphate battery. With the same battery life (600km), the weight of the whole battery pack can be more than 100-150kg, lighter than other lithium iron phosphate batteries., equivalent to the weight of 1.5-2 adults, the most direct manifestation is light weight and long battery life, but the durability of ternary lithium batteries has always been a shortcoming; and the advantage of lithium iron phosphate batteries is improved durability. But the sacrifice is battery capacity, which is battery life.

With the advantages of high energy density and long battery life, the market share of ternary lithium batteries in the past few years is far ahead of that of lithium iron phosphate batteries. However, as the battery life reaches a bottleneck, consumers are becoming more aware of the safety of electric cars. Lithium iron phosphate batteries began to emerge in 2015. Now, the emergence of magazine batteries has solved the above problem, making it possible to develop dual-line power batteries in parallel.

Why push the lithium iron phosphate magazine again?

For consumers, no matter what kind of power battery pure electric vehicle they choose, they are most concerned about the safety of the battery at present. And this is the main reason why the two acupuncture tests of GAC E'an magazine battery have attracted so much attention from the public. From the test results, its battery system safety technology not only solves the problem of ternary lithium needle stick fire, but also improves the safety of lithium iron phosphate batteries to a fairly high level.

It is understood that the magazine battery technology is the only technology in the industry that can simultaneously improve the safety of ternary lithium batteries and lithium iron phosphate batteries. On the whole, GAC E'an has three main points in pushing lithium iron phosphate magazine batteries. First, the magazine battery using lithium iron phosphate has an ultra-high cycle life of more than 4000 times, which is twice that of ordinary ternary lithium batteries. Second, the cost of the lithium iron phosphate magazine battery is lower, and the models using the battery have a more price advantage, which is very suitable for public travel and other vehicles that require high-frequency charging. Third, compared with ordinary ternary lithium batteries, the lithium iron phosphate magazine battery has higher thermal stability, and it is not easy to heat up after acupuncture, which effectively avoids the safety hazards caused by the fire of electric vehicles in the event of an accident. At the same time, the leading thermal management system and other technologies used in GAC Ion’s magazine batteries can greatly improve the winter endurance performance of lithium iron phosphate batteries. In other words, GAC Aeon’s magazine battery technology was developed specifically to address the shortcomings of the two mainstream vehicle power batteries, especially its safety performance improvement for ternary lithium batteries, which is of great significance to the new energy vehicle industry.

From ternary to iron-lithium, GAC E'an has twice "needled" the magazine battery.
