iPhone have to use USB-C

On October 24, local time, the European Council approved that from 2024, all electronic devices such as mobile phones, tablets, and digital cameras sold in the EU must use the Type-C charging interface uniformly. You can choose whether to purchase an additional charger.

The announcement also states that there is a 40-month grace period allowed for laptops using the unified charging port. According to estimates, this move can reduce 11,000 tons of electronic waste every year.

For this regulation, Apple later said that it will respect and abide by it. The implication is that the iPhone will enable USB-C, and for Apple  fans, the era of one line coping with all situation has come. But don't be too happy, because even with USB-C cables, Apple can still do whatever it wants, so don't be too naive.  Apple will limit the speed of different versions of the model.

The results of previous foreign media tests showed that the data transfer speed of the iPad 10 is limited to the 480 Mbps that USB 2.0 can support, which is the same as the ninth-generation iPad with the Lightning interface. Compared with the higher-end iPad Pro, the same USB-C interface has a data transfer speed of 40Gbps, and the latest versions of the iPad Air 4 and iPad mini also have 5Gbps.

A more important point is that although they are all USB-C, the charging power is not the same. If you look at the performance of domestic mobile phones, they are all 100W. It is not realistic for Apple to follow up. It is very important to unify the interface, but  to eliminate barriers between manufacturers is more important.

Finally, and most importantly, even if the iPhone uses a USB-C interface, Apple will not easily give up the past method of making profits around the interface and MFI accessories certification: compared to making money directly by selling iPhone, charging for authorized certified accessories is also one of Apple's important sources of income.
